Database Engineer
McLean, VA

 Definitive Logic seeks a full time Database Engineer to support a
complex, multifaceted database environment with structured and unstructured
data.  The systems include both
transactional and multidimensional data warehouse applications.  Experience with data management and
optimization across multiple database platforms.  The candidate will work with a team of
software engineers to develop new functionality and maintain the existing
systems during the transition.  This
person will be responsible for developing logical data models (LDM) and
implementing them as physical schemas. 
Ideally, the candidate will have some understanding of XML and canonical
data models as well. The candidate must understand and be able to follow
detailed life-cycle processes, utilizing best practices for configuration
control and development activities.  The
position will also include management of production, test and development
database environments and oversight over day-to-day operations including monitoring,
tuning, upgrades, and backup.




– Performing critical tasks requiring senior dba skills;

– Designing architecture of production database systems;

– Capacity planning and replication;

– Creating features such as virtual private databases and partitioning;

– Application architecture design and review;

– Assisting with optimizing database schema, SQL queries, and
installation routines;

– Creating utilities for Production Team and Development team usage;

– Working with global DBA teams to standardize processes and tools.



-MS/BS in Computer Science or related field

– Secret Clearance Required

-5 years of data modeling/database development experience

– Excellent knowledge of database administration, programming and
systems analysis procedures.

-Expert with SQL Server

-Experience in Oracle RDBMS

-Experience with Oracle Product Stack

-Experience performing Oracle database administration

-Experience in large-scale custom development and/or systems integration
projects across multiple phases of the software development lifecycle (SDLC)

– Ability to interact with senior developers at a code level;

-Strong analytical skills

-Excellent written and oral communication skills, including experience
with management-level communication and presentations



– ETL development experience

– Requirements analysis, meeting with business owners, and performing
current state system analysis

– Leading teams through developing conceptual and technical designs, including
the use of object-oriented analysis and design techniques

– Leading Testing efforts, including all phases: System, Integration,
and Performance Testing and ensuring traceability

– Significant application architecture experience
